Starch and Ethanol

Starch industry

Anhydro provides a range of evaporators for concentration of starch/starch-based formulations, spray dryers for drying liquid starch-based formulations as well as spray dryers and starch processing lines.

Starch applications

  • Evaporation: Fructose, Dextrose, Steepwater, Lysine, Lactic Acid, Maltodextrin
  • Dewatering of corn germs, corn fibres and corn gluten, and wheat fibres with bran and syrup

Evaporation and spray drying of starch
Anhydro is a major supplier of custom-designed evaporator systems and starch processing lines including dryers worldwide.

Evaporator capacities range from 4,000 lb/hr to over 400,000 lb/hr (2 to 200 metric tons/hr) of water removal, with individual evaporator vessels as large as 65,000 ft² (6,000 m²) of tubular heating surface.

Mechanical dewatering of starch
Vetter screw presses and tube bundle dryers are used to dewater corn germs, corn fibres and corn gluten, as well as wheat fibres with bran and syrup.

An upstream mechanical dewatering (screw press) can help to reduce costs by saving a significant quantity of energy. Feed moistures into the screw press are in the range of about 85 % H2O. The final moisture after the tube bundle dryer depends on the respective product and lies around 10 % H2O (corn fibres with CSL) or 3 % H2O (corn germs).
